Jumping at Opportunity

When we're in the Vortex, when we're actively aligned with our heart's desire, opportunities come at us fast.  The Universe is always conspiring to give us whatever it is that we focus on most.  When we are eagerly focused on what we want instead of focusing on everything that is wrong with our life, when we are happy and actively working toward our dream, then doors begin to open for us.  It is up to us to be prepared to walk through those doors and to claim our prize.

Opportunity is a funny thing.  It generally comes when we least expect it, and often comes when we're busy doing something else.  Take finding a partner, for instance.  You go through years of dating and wishing, wanting to couple up with someone so badly that it hurts.  Then, when you get busy working on a personal project or finally become contented living on your own, that's when the perfect person tends to show up.  It always seems to happen when we're not actively wanting it.

Life's big opportunities are like that.  They come disguised as interruptions, such as invitations to help someone or to go somewhere other than what you've got planned out.  If we are truly in the Vortex and are focused on our dream, then we will tend to recognize interruptions for the opportunities that they are.  It's almost like we hear a bell ringing inside our head signaling, "Pay attention! This is important!!"  When that happens, we must be willing to stop whatever we are busy doing and follow that call, even if it may be inconvenient.

Following your heart may sometimes cause you to make an impulsive decision to go somewhere or do something that seems completely out of the blue.  Eckhart Tolle tells of an overwhelming urge he had to move to the west coast of the United States.  He didn't really know anyone there, and had no practical reasons he could cite for moving, yet he could not shake the feeling that it was important.  So he went.  That move set things in motion that eventually culminated in the publishing of his book, The Power of Now.  He became the internationally-known author and speaker that he is today because he followed that prompting to move to another country and begin to write.

Now, I know many people who make impulsive decisions and they are definitely not moving forward.  There are people ... you may know some of these yourself ... who jump at any opportunity that presents itself.  Every time you see them they are into some new thing.  They are the ones who jump from one network marketing opportunity to another, from one job to another, from one hobby to another.  Young people tend to do this, and it is not necessarily a bad thing.  In the beginning, we are not sure exactly what it is that we really want.  In that instance, it is perfectly acceptable, even advisable, to shop around.  Trying new things is how we learn what we prefer and how we learn to recognize what we absolutely do not want.  It is an important first step.

Eventually, though, we must choose one desired goal and focus on that with laser-beam precision.  Once we have decided on our Clear Definite Aim and are consistently holding a Clear Mental Image of that goal in our mind, then we will be able to discern which opportunities are leading us toward our goal and which are merely distractions.  For example, I have a chance to perform in a play this season; Fiddler on the Roof, to be precise.  I've always wanted to be in a musical, and I think that it would be a blast to sing and dance every night.  But my Clear Definite Aim is to be a world-class writer and speaker.  After thinking about it, I realized that if I were busy rehearsing for a play every night, and learning my lines and dance moves during the day, it would eat up whatever time I have to write.  It would also tie up my schedule for the next several months so that when a call to speak came I would be unavailable to accept.  As much as I know I would enjoy being a cast member in the local community theater, I also know that it would be a huge distraction keeping me from my heart's true desire.

What is your heart's desire, and what kind of opportunities would make that happen for you?  Ready yourself, so that when they present themselves you will be free to jump.  If you want to be able to travel, make sure your passport is in order and you have adequate luggage and wardrobe in place.  If you want to write, clear time in your schedule so that you write every day, even if you don't yet know how you will sell that writing.  If you want to be a singer, practice every day so that when an opportunity to perform presents itself your voice will be ready.  If you want to be a private investigator, start readying yourself.  If you want to be in a relationship, make sure that your home is set up to accomodate two people.  Make room in your closet, and set your bedroom up so that two people can read in bed and have their own nightstand.

Ready yourself.  If you are waiting for your big break, wait with your jumping shoes on and your bags packed.  You never know when opportunity will come knocking.
